Barwon Heads Pizza

Before building this oven, I had never laid a brick in my life. Through research, discussion and planning (mainly with my mate Jeff), I managed to build my wood fired oven.

This oven is not just a pizza oven. It does turn out magnificent pizzas, however it is not limited only to pizza. This oven is great for baking bread, roasting meats and vegetables, cooking pastries and sweets, baking meringues, and even drying tomatoes.

Since completing my oven early in 2009, I have fired my oven many times and had heaps of social gatherings. If you have any interest in cooking, entertaining, drinking or eating, build yourself a wood-fired oven.

I am not a brick-layer or a chef. I am a primary school teacher and I love a project around the house. If you are keen and inspired, you too can build your own wood-fired oven. I have created this website to assist you build your own oven and then cook some wonderful foods. I am not a guru and I don’t promise that this website will provide you with all the answers, however it will assist you in your journey.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank two people. Firstly my good mate Jeff who built an oven at the same time as me. We spent many hours on the phone discussing our ovens, and helping each other at various stages of the build. Jeff has also been a fantastic help teaching me to cook bread. I’d also like to thank Don for his assistance is getting me started on the base and his brick-laying lessons. I couldn’t have done it without you guys!

Good luck, happy cooking and thanks for visiting my site.

welcome to MY world of the wood-fired oven

Pizza (ˈpiːtsə/; Italian: [ˈpittsa]), in the US sometimes called pizza pie[1], is an oven-baked, flat, disc-shaped bread typically topped with a tomato sauce, cheese (usually mozzarella), and various toppings, depending on the culture. Since the original pizza, several other types of pizzas have evolved.
